Are You Old?

Lately everyone wants to know my age. Lately everyone wants to know why I just cant lose those last 7 pounds. Lately everyone wants to know why I dont teach Spin anymore.

So as I ponder answering all these questions, I sit here sipping on my new high protein coffee. Here goes:

Maybe Im finally happy with me, maybe happiness comes in the form of moderation, self satisfaction and a nice mirror.Perhaps fitness is a marathon and not a sprint and perhaps truly being happy means being truly happy outside of the gym. I believe that balance is now the key and balancing my health with actually living is more important than a six pack.

I hope that all of you are your healthiest selves, but your healthy self starts with
being happy with the kind of person your are and then the body comes.

Diet Fail?

Did you fail on your diet this week? Cant make your workouts? Having a hard time to stay motivated?

Recently I was at a Happy Hour event and a lady asked me what she could do to make time to get to the gym. She also asked me why she cant stop eating Greek Yogurt.
This lady has been trying to get into the gym to see me for months but just cant make it. She has alot going on, shes real busy, she has lots to do!

Well when she asked me what she should do about her time and diet problem. I hesitated and thought about what I should say. So after about 2 seconds I said what I believe. STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop with the baloney, stop with the BS and just do it. Get to the gym, go far a walk, eat right.

If you have time to hang with your friends, sit at home and eat, talk about your problems, I know you have time to walk 20 minutes a day. I told her, stop making excuses and just do what you gotta do. There is no magic therapy that is going to do this for you.

The Real Reason!

Have you lied to yourself about what you really are?

Have you told yourself you eat healthy, you are fit, you can do a pushup?
Did you say that youll do it next week, that you are heart healthy, that you
are in the best shape of your life?

I would ask why we lie to ourselves. Even I am guilty of not doing all I can do.
However, I knew it all along but I kept up the lie. Now I have to be more honest cause im not getting any younger and I may never get back the body I want if I dont
get back on the horse real quick.

So you say, what can I do? Well you can stop telling that lie and get to the gym!
And if you think you can do it without a gym, thats a lie. It is time we were hard on ourselves and do what we are supposed to do and be the healthiest human we can be.

In The Mirror Naked!

How many of us have been talking about getting fit? Going for a run? Eating better?
But we never get on the train and why? Im not sure why. After many years of
personal training, I am never sure why someone wouldnt want to be as fit and
healthy as they can be. So, since you cant seem to get motivated, here is something I tell my clients when they want to cancel, sleep in, cry about the working out.

Take off all your clothes in a private place. Turn on the bright lights. Stand in front of a full length mirror. Jump up and down. Turn around. Jump up and down.
Bend over and look between your legs at your thighs.

If this picture of your body in full 3-D doesnt get you to the gym, nothing will.

The Will to Win!



Ok, so who has lost the will to win?

What I mean by win is the will to workout, keep dieting, get to the gym etc?
Well you need to get re-motivated and get competitive. You need a competitive intervention. It is time to announce yourself as not going to lose!

Thats right people, you are going to say I am not going lose. You need to tell someone in the gym, your friends, your family, what your workout goals are, what your fitness goals are and then you need to tell someone everyday. "This is my goal and im not gonna lose", I am not gonna give up.

I meet so many people everyday who say they have given up on their diet plan or are missing their workouts and I believe they need to start making it a competition. They need to announce to the world their intentions and then dont let themselves down.

So, make it a competition with yourself and get on those fitness goals.

Monday Blues!



Ever dont feel like working out on a Monday?

Even though Monday is suppose to be the perfect start to a workout
out week. Or the day to revamp your bad diet over the weekend. Why are
we so tired and unmotivated on Monday's? Well I dont know the answer to why
but I do know that we need a new approach.

After many years of the Monday blues and also listening to clients who dont
want to get to the gym on Mondays. I have decided it is time to take the pressure
off of Monday and just go with the flow. Yes, most of us dont eat great on
the weekend and most of us dont workout on the weekend either. But that doesnt
mean Egypt was built in one day.

Here is a new approach. Mondays you simply do a little something to get the blood
moving and refocus your efforts to Tuesday. On Monday clean up your diet, do a little cardio and make a plan for Tuesday thru Friday. That is my new
option for Monday. No more trying to regain all I have lost over the weekend
in one day.

Mondays will simply be a day to get it together for Tuesday.

Diet Coke Isnt The Problem!

How many times have you heard that your Diet Coke or your Iced Tea drinking is
just another problem or reason why you cant lose weight or meet your
weight loss goals.

Well im here to tell you a HUGE secret, your diet coke isnt the problem, it is the reason you got to this point or why you are have a weight issue. Or even the reason why your not fit. The only and real reason is because you eat to much!!!!!!!!!!!!

Diet coke didnt make you eat fast food, or late nite or 2 large pizzas. Diet Coke or anything like that isnt making you drink a bottle of wine with dinner at nite. That poor diet coke isnt stopping from going to the gym. Focus on the real larger problem. You eat to much and not enough excercise.

I am tired of ppl asking me about their nutrtion and what they should do, when by now we all know the basics. We all know what a protein is, a carbs and fat, and we certainly all know when we eat to much. So, you might say, Eric you dont sounds very helpful. Well, you are right. Eating small portions and excercising daily isnt rocket science. So, stop making excuses and hop to it. Get to it. Make it happen.
Stop wishing that there is a magic diet or answer, there isnt!

Ok, now that we have all cleared that up. I love you and hope to see you at the gym.

Prunes Are for Old People

Well everyone I have news for you, I am eating Prunes and I love it.

No, well I love them. I dont know what has happened. Now that I am a muture adult and trying to be leaner and meaner, I need to keep up my fiber intake and according to Dr.Oz I need to go to the bathroom regularly. So, prunes are my answer.

Yes, I am talking about going to the bathroom, staying regular and staying leaner.
This is not just for old people. Or maybe it is. Not sure really except I wanted to bring you just another of a plethra of fitness ideas. Keep going to the bathroom reglularly.

Fell Down Stairs

I fell down the stairs and missed my workout yesterday and I feel so guilty.
What do I do now???????????

Ok, so yesterday I decided I would give blood for the first time, I have always wanted to be helpful but never had the courage to give up the pint of precious gold or maybe I was just scared of needles. Anyways, I had the blood drawn and thought I could workout after, but became dizzy and basically I fell down the stairs and I had problems getting back up. I kept saying, someone please help the old lady oh I mean the old guy up, but no one came. Well thats a whole other story.

So eventually I crawled to the car and got somewhere to lay down. The point of this story is, why is that sometimes there is no one there to pick you up when you fall down the stairs? The answer is...............

Because besides my faith, I picked myself up. So pick yourself up and get to the gym or wherever you gotta go.

Burger King came Thru!

Yes, in my continuing campaign to show myself and some of you, that you can eat healthy anywhere.

Recently I ate at the amazing place called Burger King. Why is it Burger King, because that damn Whopper is so good. Hold up, that is not what I ate. They have a cool little side salad there for only a dollar, yes a dollar and I order a Whopper JR. because that's what I really wanted and I took the Whopper off the bread, put in on my salad with tomatoes, onions and other stuff, dumped the bread and ate a salad
Whopper JR.

Yes, I have created something new and it was great. But the best part of all, I spent
less that $3bucks at the BK Lounge.

Hydration Station

Sometimes even the strong need to hydrate.

Yesterday I went to north Tampa and visited with friends who have a new business called Hydration Station at Wiregrass Mall. This is a cool outside kiosks with slushies or what ever you wanna call them.

And they were very good. Now you ask, how does this affect my fitness. Well, it doesnt. All I am saying is that a family that works together, plays togethers, works out together, stays together. LOL.

Check out hydration station when you are up at Wiregrass Mall and if you dont want a delicious pina colada and strawberry slush, get yourself a cold water, cause you know that you must stay hydrated.

Sunscreen!

Do you look like LEATHER?
have you ever met people that look older, look like leather or smell like
a coach bag...well that is because they havent gone to the Dollar store to
buy sunscreen.

If a guy is 30 and looks 40 or she is 25 and look 40, she has spent to much time in the sun or tanning bed. If you are tanning your face in a tanning bed, you are aging
yourself by 20 years.

So here is a fitness tip. Wear a hat, glasses and sunscreen and then you can look great at any age.

Cant Keep On Any Muscle

Ok here it is.
So many of you always ask me: Why cant I put on muscle more quickly or why am I having a hard time gaining the right amount of weight, especially since I have been working out hard?

Well, I have no clue as to why your body reacts the way it does, we are all very different. But here is are a couple of reasons why your not as lean or muscular as you want to be. You need more protein and you need them at the right times. Here are 2 basics tips you can follow today to get you on the right track.

1. Make sure you are eating protein within an hour after your workout. This will help with muscle recovery and help build new muscle, after your workout your muscles need protein and want it now.
2. Before you go to bed, make yourself a lean protein shake. Don't spend alot on powders but find an affordable one with a flavor you can live with and make it before bed, this will help in the critical sleep stage, when your body is doing all of its maintenance and craves protein. This will help put on lean muscle tissue.

Ok, there it is, simple and easy and not rocket science.

Looking Younger

Ok people here it is, the number one killer to your youthful looks....(drum roll).....
STRESS, stress in your life and how you deal with it is the number one killer of your youth. Well besides your constant drinking alcohol..LOL.

We all need to learn to destress our lives. We need to surround ourselves with positive loving people. People who lift us up and give us the love we deserve. And get the job that doesn't try and kill us and the boss that hates you because your beautiful. Last try and keep that wallet in check, over spending and living on credit never helped you sleep better at nite. My number one tip to save money. Stop eating out. There is this great place called the grocery store. Use it!

Ok kids, lets destress and learn to breathe and relax. Stay around positive people and keep our money in our wallets. As for the boss that hates you cause your smarter and prettier, wish him or her well and let them be on their way. Kill them with kindness.

The HIdden Sugars in Your Diet!

Its almost time for you to pull out that barbeque sauce and do some grilling. Well if carbs are a concern for you. Then be aware that barbeque sauce is on my list of top 5 culprits to ruining your summer body goals. Here are my TOP 5:

1. Fruit Drink, loaded with sugar, pick the lites, these are a great way to get your fruit servings but you need to see the sugar content.
2. Barbeque sauce, it is delicious, but you need to keep it lite, it is loaded with extra sugar.
3.. Yogurt, get the greek version or low sugar/carb otherswise you negate the protein benefit.
4. Alcohol, this should be your number 1. Do not get fat by drinknig alcohol, it is loaded with carbs/and sugars, and then you add fruit juice.
5. Grapes. Yes grapes are amazing and have many benefits but eat them sparingly and then eat them early not before you go to sleep. Much fruit is very high in sugar.

Drinking Your Six Pack

Ok,
So summer is here and you are wondering if you should pull out that bathing/swim suit from 1998. Well I suppose that you could but from what I read you have put on a few pounds and now it doesnt fit. So here are 3 things you must do before you try on those swim trunks or that string bikini.
1. Put the FORK down! (We eat to much)
2. Your drinkin a 6 pack thats why you dont have a 6 pack!
3. Elastic looks good on no-one!!!!!! Thats right elastic, no bathing suits with elastic.

These are the easy rules to follow weeks before you get to the beach or decide to walk down your neighborhood side walk. Put the fork down means eat till you feel full and stop over eating. Next, you want a 6 pack but you drink alcohol like your the official wine sample, so stop drinking so much...water helps. Last, those old bathing suits, swim trunks never look good. Wear something that actually looks good on your body. If you are a guy, NO swim trunks with elastic, loser board shorts make your waiste look smaller and if you are a sexy woman, then that strink bikini or 2 piece prabably didnt look good in the 90's so it prabalby doenst look good now.

The Concept of Hate

I have been working hard on the concept of self hate. I know this sounds strange but in the last year I discovered that I had lived a life of lots of self hate.

For me the words or actions of others have never bothered me as much as the things that I would do to myself. Primarily the decisions I would make that affected my life and never in a good way. I am just now understanding that the everyday life I was living was filled with a deep distrust and dislike of self. I know that many people will read this and react with a certain sarcasm but this blog is about me after all. LOL.

The reason why I write about this today is because we can always be better and do better, we can always work hard at being better than we are, kinder than we have been and more understanding. My life has always been filled with trying to give to others more than I would give to myself and I am just now realizing that I have to take care of myself first and like myself enough not to be so hard on myself. It begins with being honest with me and forgiving myeself. When someone says, "you have to forgive me", I say that to myself. I have to forgive me. For even with a career and life filled with what we deem as success, I am truly going to be more successful this next go around. You make ask how this affects my fitness, well its because I feel your fitnes success it tied to how you feel about yourself.

Its Official

Its official I am old! I was told that you could say you were 25 for like 8 to 10 years. Well while I am looking my worst these days, I have been running like a mad man on the streets of Tampa and guess what? I am slower than the old lady next to me walking her dog at the park today.

Yes, she was like 80 years young and she lapped me. She took me down and made fun of me and guess what? I smiled and kept going until I finally shook her off for good and told her that Ill see her tommorrow for a rematch. The point of this pointless story is the obvious one. Dont give up, dont give in, just get back on the horse and try again. No matter what people tell, like, "your best days have come and gone", it doesnt mean thats your reality. You just keep going and sooner or later you to will pass grandma and her dog.
